Position Overview
The Certified Rigger is a critical member of the Technical Services team, responsible for the safe setup, inspection, and operation of rigging systems for events and productions. This role involves working with a variety of equipment to support staging, lighting, LED walls, and other structural elements. The ideal candidate has a strong technical background, a commitment to safety, and a passion for delivering high-quality results in live event production.
Key Responsibilities
Rigging Setup and Operation
- Assemble, install, and operate rigging systems, including trusses, hoists, motors, and hanging points, for events and productions.
- Securely suspend equipment such as lighting, LED walls, drapery, and scenic elements according to technical specifications.
- Perform pre-show checks and operate rigging systems during live events as needed.
Safety and Inspection
- Inspect rigging equipment, such as cables, harnesses, and hardware, for wear and tear, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
- Conduct load calculations to ensure all systems meet weight limits and structural requirements.
- Follow industry best practices and safety protocols, identifying and mitigating potential risks on-site.
Collaboration and Coordination
- Work closely with lighting, staging, and video teams to ensure rigging systems integrate seamlessly with other technical elements.
- Communicate effectively with production staff and clients to address technical needs and adjustments.
- Assist in planning and executing rigging solutions for complex projects and unique setups.
Equipment Maintenance
- Maintain and repair rigging equipment to ensure it remains in excellent working condition.
- Organize and manage rigging inventory, keeping detailed records of usage and maintenance.
Qualifications
- Certified Rigger with credentials from an industry-recognized program (e.g., ETCP, OSHA-compliant training).
- Proven experience in rigging for live events, theater, or entertainment productions.
- Strong understanding of rigging principles, load calculations, and equipment operation.
- Familiarity with safety regulations and industry standards (e.g., ANSI, OSHA).
- Ability to work at heights and lift heavy equipment as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with motorized rigging systems and automation.
- Knowledge of Hawai‘i’s cultural and creative industries is a plus.
- Additional certifications in fall protection, aerial lift operation, or related areas are highly desirable.
